The Native Pollinator Garden
The Somerville Garden Club has created a Native Pollinator Garden in the stone circle next to my sun garden–where the big Leyland Cyprus stood before its disastrous fall this past winter.
This shows the stone circle as a whole, with the bike path to the right and my sun garden in the distance. The Garden Club–or Giles Kotcher–put these stones in place about twenty years ago, when the bike path was first constructed–and placed the Leyland Cyprus in the center. You’d never believe from this picture how green and shady it was under that tree . . .
The City took months to clear away the tree wreckage–and never did remove the roots. So the Garden Club did it, in several sessions–also removing a great many rocks. This was one of the last big roots–wrestled out by Irene and Erik with superhuman endurance.
